Ana de la Reguera was born in Puebla, Mexico, and grew up in the small fishing village of Apuntado, which lies on the Gulf of Mexico. Her parents, along with her two younger siblings, became skilled craftsmen on the family farm, harvesting corn and shrimp and preparing tortillas and dips for marinated meats. Ana began attending local plays and singing at local talent shows before graduating to studying acting in Los Angeles, where she became known as an actress on the television show Deadwood. She later appeared in the musical revival of King of the Hill, as well as episodes of Law and Order. Now, she is known primarily as an actress, hosting Spanish language programs on Fox and in the UK, appearing in the feature-length animated film titled Meet the Parents.
Ana de la Reguera’s passion for acting started when she was very young, going on to perform in drama club productions throughout her young adult years. It was then that she decided to turn professional, enrolling in both the Fashion Institute of America and the School of Acting in Los Angeles. After graduating, she pursued a variety of different acting opportunities, working on television shows such as ER, Scrubs, Frasier, Two Minutes for Something Little, Roseanne, Glee, Once Upon a Time, among many others. However, it was in 2021 that Ana de la Reguera truly began to establish her own name in the industry, when her performance in the critically acclaimed film Desperate Housewives propelled her into stardom status. Since then, she has appeared in a number of films including The Nutty Business, Meet the Parents, Gia!, Edward Scissorhands, Invictus, and most recently, The Best Man Holiday.
Ana de la Reguera’s distinctive acting skills make her the ideal candidate to star as Meggie, a foul-mouthed yet lovable character from the popular sitcom, The Office. Meggie is a fictionalized version of Ana, who is the workplace supervisor at a small, privately owned advertising agency. Meggie constantly gets into arguments with her coworkers, much to the dismay of her brother, Jose (anomalous and British), and her boss, Alice (Carla Gavina). Because of her short tempered nature, Meggie is frequently depicted as being cold and distant, even rude and arrogant. Her character is one of two characters who works at the office, but has a secret passion for her twin brother.
Ana de la Reguera will next be seen in the second season of ABC’s Once Upon a Time spinoff, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, playing Rosa Mariscos, a Mexican maid. The casting for this role was made possible through the extensive search process that Once Upon a Time in Mexico featured, which ultimately resulted in Ana de la Reguero being cast. Her role in the upcoming Once Upon a Time in Mexico episode is expected to debut sometime in the summer. It is interesting to speculate that she will simply be given a different name, much like how her character was in the original Spanish version of the show, and will thus be treated as a non-speaking character. We’ll keep our ears open for any updates on the situation.
