On February 17, 2021, Conor McGregor made his professional debut in the Irish Ring of Truth for the first time. It was an amateur bout against Kieran Campbell where McGregor emerged victorious. Following his victory, he quickly signed with the Irish Cage of Truth. He has since gone on to become one of the most popular and well respected mixed martial arts fighters in the world. He is one of the top 10 highest paid fighters in the world.
Conor is originally from North Palm Beach, Florida. As a child, he trained with his father at the Second Floor Gym, which is now converted into a mixed martial arts facility. After training in the UFC, many believed that Conor would soon follow in the footsteps of the best fighters in the world, but his path was quite different. He trained with his father at a bare knuckle boxing gym for around two years before going straight into the UFC.

When asked about what he feels makes him different from other fighters, Conor says that his strength is his “nose. The only guy that I’ve had who’s beaten me is James Thompson. I won’t walk my nose up to anyone until they tell me who the guy is. That’s just the way I am.” He went on to say that being Irish influenced his style. He believes that being Irish gives him a distinct advantage over opponents and he has used this ever since entering the UFC.
One of the nicknames that experts have come up with for Conor is “The Notorious Conor”, which came from his winning performance against Diego Sanchez in the first round of their lightweight fight in the summer of 2021. Even after a loss to James Thompson in the main event of the weekend, it was not enough for him to secure a title shot against the hardest puncher in the sport today. He went on to beat the “little dude” in what many considered to be one of the most impressive performances by an Irish fighter in the UFC. Afterward, “The Notorious” received a standing ovation from the fans and media in what many considered to be one of the best performances in UFC history. In fact, some called it the best fight they ever saw in UFC history.
With a win over Diego Sanchez, Conor became the fourth lightweight champion in the company’s history. He now looks to face Diego Sanchez in a second fight at a UFC event sometime after his match with James Thompson. If he wins, it will put him one-on-two against another two-division champion in Jon Jones.
For many, this is simply another feather in featherweight champ Joannaobo’s hat, but regardless, it will be a great chance for “The Notorious” to get back into the big show where he belongs. With a win over Jones, it will only increase the buzz around him and make him more of a star. For the most part, a win over Pacquiao will increase his stock, while a loss will push him down the same path as Dustin pointer. For now though, this is a fight that will entertain all in attendance and give every MMA fan the thrill of their life.
