Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Plaza Mayor in Madrid, the capital city of Spain. His birth name was Filipe, which is derived from a Portuguese word that means “beautiful child”. After moving to Portugal from Sporting Lisbon as a small boy, Ronaldo became immersed in the world of football. He would attend the Estoril training centre with his family on Februrary 5, where he met his future wife, funicular early life.
Ronaldo joined FC Barcelona as an eight-year-old, where he thrived in a side that won the European Champions League two consecutive years. Despite this success, he failed to live up to expectations and failed to even feature in the first team until the 2023/11 season, when he was injured. During this time he formed a partnership with Kaka, which helped them win another treble in the Champions League final. Ronaldo then left FC Barcelona and signed for PSV Eindhoven, but it would be this move that would bring him international recognition, as he came on as a substitute against Mexico during their semi-final match. This would be Ronaldo’s first international goal, and would eventually become a record for most goals scored in a single game.
Injuries limited Ronaldo to just seven matches in the league the next season, as he was not deemed fit enough to feature for Sporting Lisbon. Despite this, he made 38 appearances for the Portuguese side, scoring five goals. Ronaldo’s season was ended prematurely by an arm injury sustained while playing for his country in the World Cup, but he would still score three more goals in the rest of the season, helping Sporting Lisbon wins the Clausually yearly Portugal competition, the crown gaining them the coveted king’s title.
