The month of Ramadan comes to an end in a very interesting way. Afghanistan marks this holy month with a festival which many call ” Eid Al Adha 2023 “. But what is Eid Al Adha? And is Afghanistan ready for this beautiful occasion?
It is a festival marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of new Lent. In Islamic traditions, this day is most important because the fasting period will end and we can start doing our spiritual exercises once again. Eid Al Adha is not only a religious holiday but also a time for joy and enjoyment. Many schools, colleges and universities commemorate this day with a series of events and activities. In fact, most cities in Afghanistan have special celebrations for Eid Al Adha.
So what is Eid Al Adha exactly? Eid Al Adha literally means “end of Ramadan” in Arabic and is the final day for the religious fasting. This observance began over a thousand years ago in Arabia and spread to other countries including Egypt, Iran, and Iraq. During this period, all Muslims around the world fast from dawn till dusk. This period is considered one of the most stressful periods in a person’s life and can be very difficult to cope with.
For many people, this event has religious significance as well as a great deal of importance for their souls. When the fasting period ends, they are then allowed to eat and drink during the day. This is a time of celebration in most Islamic nations. Eid Al Adha is one of the biggest national holidays, so the city is partying hard. Eid Al Adha is also celebrated with extra vigor on account of the number of celebrants and the huge crowd that gathers at this event.

So, how does an Eid Al Adha in Afghanistan work? On Eid Al Adha, which usually happens around three months after the end of Ramzan, the solemn ceremony takes place in a mosque or a temple of worship and starts with a recitation of Quran. Once the recitation is over, a number of prayers are performed by highly trained holy men who are known as “O Prophet Muhammad”. Then a rope is tied around the waist of the Prophet, who is also known as “O Allah” and a number of holy scholars, students and experts perform dance as a sign of entertainment and fun before the “O Prophet Muhammad” finishes his recite, prayers and dance.
After the dance and prayer, a fire is lit in the middle of the night to symbolize the sacrifice of the holy figures. Then a star is twinkled on the Eid Al Adha day to represent the star Allah. The celebration on Eid Al Adha is huge all over the country and even International terrorist organizations like al Qaeda have taken notice of it. Many local schools have made cards that they distribute to children depicting Eid Al Adha as a major festival. In Afghanistan propertied and built schools are doing their best to celebrate the event. However, Eid Al Adha in Afghanistan is not without controversy and much of this debate has been brought about by some groups supporting radical Islam.
