The month of Ramadan is considered to be one of the fasting months of the Islamic calendar. During this month, Muslims all over the world fast from dawn till Sunday. They break their fast by taking a bath and then have ‘O Allah’ (Allah in Arabic) as a blessing. They offer prayers to ask for the blessings of the almighty. Muslims in the Philippines to observe this tradition especially on the first day of Ramadan, which is also known as the Eid Al Adha or The Night of Power.

What is Eid in Philippine tradition? The festival that we celebrate in the Philippines is mostly related to Islam. The believers usually start preparing for the celebration around a week before the month of Ramadan begins. They gather outside their mosques and carry out meditation sessions.

Some people also take fasting as a spiritual practice. It allows them to overcome certain psychological and emotional problems that they are going through in their lives.

Many Filipinos love to eat a lot of chicken and pork because it is considered to be their national meat. Even local fish such as tuna and other kinds of fishes are also consumed. For many, these are part of their religious beliefs and they consume them on Eid. But then there are also people who just love eating and drinking.

Other preparations for the celebration include displaying the Eid Al Adha trademark around the necks of everyone who participates. This symbolizes the fact that they have come from Islamic countries and they should abide by Islamic law. Flags and banners with the logo of Eid Al Adha can also be seen in most local markets. The government also encourages its citizens to fly the flag on Eid Al Adha.
