Guan Xiaotong’s real name was Guan Xiong, which when translated means “grey-haired white female.” Her real father is said to be Li Xian, who is a prominent Beijing Politician. His other children are Liiping, a university student, and his wife, Hua Xiaojie. According to some rumors, Guan was adopted by a British serviceman while serving in the navy during the WW II. This served as the source of her full name, thus earning the nickname Guan Ado (Guan Xiaotong) which later turned out to be the source of her fame in Hollywood.

In recent years, Guan became one of the most popular Chinese celebrities, receiving many awards and accolades for her various achievements, such as winning the best actress award for her role in Tai Chi: The Wing Chun Master.
