The blessed Eid is on the way and all the household activities are taken care by the elders of the family and the bride and groom themselves. This is the time to share love, pray, and to wish the best of wishes to each other on this auspicious day. It is the custom in Pakistan and other Islamic nations to exchange rings as a symbol of commitment and as an indication of the future marriage between the two families. The families exchange rings to keep in touch and to see if their future union is worthy of the blessings of Allah.
The bride and the groom hold their wedding ceremony at a hall or venue of their choice and the guests enjoy music, dancers and lanterns to set the mood. They then have the traditional dance of Dussehra at the entrance of the hall. The bride walks up to the stage accompanied by her groom and they perform a dance called Dussehra. The bride’s father bows to the ground and gives thanks to Allah for his daughter’s beauty. The bridegroom then takes his partner’s hand and they walk from the place of the entrance where the Dussehra was started to the place of engagement.
At the ceremony over the bride and the groom have a reading of Quran in front of all the guests and then they start their married life. The bride and the groom hold their marriage ceremony in a masjid and make their walk to their new home with blessings and best wishes from both the families. This is the moment that signals the beginning of a new phase in the life of the bride and the groom. They start their journey with the same firm determination which was shown during the wedding ceremony. The newly wed couple gets down from the thrones and the head mullah or master stands there with them to bless them and to ask them to start a new chapter in their lives.
The bride and the groom then take their seats on the king of the throne and the chief priest presides over the gathering. After this, the couple’s parents, along with other relatives and guests, exchange greetings and give each other a kiss. It is then time for the wedding feast, which includes foods like the Shuriya which is spread over the table. The ceremonial breaking of the bread is then followed by the distribution of sweets to the guests and the breaking of glassware and the lighting of candles.

The bride and the groom then leave their home together after the groom puts a silk cloth on them and seals it with a gold ring. The couple then steps out in front of a large crowd, which consists of friends, family and relatives of both the families and announces their marriage. The wedding celebration includes music, dance and fireworks which make the entire evening very entertaining. A camel ride is also arranged in the evening where the bride’s and the groom’s guests are felicitated.
The wedding night is a very special occasion and is celebrated in the honour of the bride who carries the most beautiful ring that symbolizes the everlasting vows that they take each day till death. This is also the last day for the groom to shave his head as it is believed that it is the final day to shave off his hair. The guests are encouraged to wear their best clothes which include suits and tuxedos. The Egyptians believe that the beauty of a woman starts from her bowels and ends at her lips so this is a very important part of the wedding ceremony. This is why the guests are asked to arrive early so that they can prepare themselves and get ready before the ceremony starts.
