The International Day of Families is celebrated on the 15th of May each year. The Day was formally declared by the UN General Assembly in 1993 in a resolution A/ RES/ 1947/idium. The Day is designed to bring together parents, children, brothers, and sisters from different countries around the world who belong to different families and have different cultural and social traditions. The main objective of the day is to promote unity, peace, family values, and family-centric development among all people.
There are a number of causes associated with the International Day of Families. One of the major reasons is the pressing need for gender equality. The issue of gender equality is very crucial and has been highlighted by the United Nations as one of the issues that should be given utmost priority during the preparations for the forthcoming International Day of Families. Apart from promoting gender equality, the International Day of Families also draws attention to the need for family-related programs and initiatives that can draw greater income and awareness to the issue of family and its related programs and initiatives.
International Day of Families 2021
The Day is also organized to draw attention to the issue of child education and its related initiatives. It is estimated that there May 15 million children who are illiterate in countries across the globe. For this reason, the International Day of Families may provide a platform for those who wish to educate children and mothers at the same time. Also, the effort may generate greater financial contributions from various governments and organizations.
The efforts of the International Day of Families also aim at creating shelters and other support systems for widows, orphans, and other families that suffer from poverty and vulnerability. The efforts may include providing education and employment opportunities for displaced families and children left behind by war. In fact, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has proposed two new projects in Yemen and Egypt. One of the projects will allow women from different communities to share their experiences on rebuilding their homes, which may help in the development of future generations.
