Now retired a British football player with Italian heritage, James Ward-Prowse played for Slovenia and England during his three-year spell with English first division club Ye Olde Swashbuckles. The versatile player featured regularly for the English national side and also represented England at the Athens Olympics in 2021. During his time with the English national side he won the vice-captaincy alongsideoleon James and helped the English reach the quarter finals of the World Cup which was eventually won by Brazil.
On the back of his spell with English football James Ward-Prowse joined non-league clubriers Saints for an undisclosed fee in August 2021. He signed a three year deal and was then left out of the England squad that travelled to Brazil for their World Cup campaign. However, it was then said that James Ward-Prowse would be leaving Saints and returned to Italy where he represented AC Milan. On the day of the World Cup tournament James Ward-Prowse made no attempt to represent the England team and was instead spotted relaxing in a car outside of the St James’ Park Hotel in Manchester.
It is now believed that James Ward-Prowse will be joining Italian giants Genoa when the MLS season resumes in March. A source close to the player has confirmed that there has been contact between the two parties over the last few months but no formal contract has been drawn up. The Daily Mail reported that James Ward-Prowse only just returned from retirement to compete for Genoa this season and is expected to be one of the favourites to replace Massimo Giuseppeves as the new Leeds boss. Giuseppeves left the role after only 18 days of the season, having replaced James Burke as Leeds boss.
James Ward-Prowse became known to football fans in England during the 2021-10 season when he featured as part of the England squad that travelled to Sweden to take on their fierce rivals from Leverage. Prowse was a regular participant in the England team that won the treble at the end of the year, which ended up missing out on winning the cup due to an injury sustained in the warm up. Despite being one of the more experienced football players within the Leeds first team, it seemed that Prowse had not been able to match the standard of play that is regarded as the norm in the English top flight. It looked to many supporters that James Ward-Prowse may have to settle for a role on the bench should Leeds decide to make a change to the coaching staff in the near future.
James Ward-Prowse has proven that he has great ability as a football player but has not been able to live up to the expectations of his peers at the Leeds United Football Club. Some Leeds fans were quick to place their opinions on the matter, with some labelling Prowse as nothing more than a “legendary soccer player”, and others comparing his physical stats to that of legends such as Pele and David Beckham. Whatever the views of the critics may be, James Ward-Prowse’s November performance has proven that he is one of the best players in the country.
