Jonathan Ikone is a French international football player who currently plays as a right forward for Ligue 1 side Lille. Jonathan has been a mainstay in the Ligue 1 for several years and played a key role for the club throughout their progression from the French second division to the top flight of French soccer. He holds a record 11 goals for the French club and has scored the winning goal in the French cup final against Lens. He is widely regarded as one of the best French international players of his position.
Jonathan Ikone Facts: – A native of Rouen, Jonathan Ikone grew up playing football in the town. He made his first team debut aged 16 against FC Midtjylland in the United States Cup quarter finals and made a substitute appearance in the second leg of the semis. This earned him a call up by the England squad that went on to win the World Cup in 1999. He made three more appearances for the senior England side before moving abroad to play in Europe.
Career Outlook: – Currently Jonathan Ikone is part of Ligue 1 side Lorient where he has spent the majority of his career. In his time at the club he has become a firm favourite amongst the fans and has established himself as one of the best right wingers in the league. His performances in the past season have helped the club to move into the top half of the table having qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League. This qualification places Lorient in a good position to challenge for European honours next season. Lorient are also favorites to win the league again this season.
Season Outlook: – The season is just round the corner and with it comes a number of changes to the Lorient starting line up. Jonathan Ikone will start against AZ Monaco in the first fixture of the season and looks to start on the right wing once again after spending time on the left wing in previous seasons. Chris Evans will captain the side and hopefully captaincy will go hand in hand with the club record goal drought. It is believed that James Morrison is set to make his debut for the club. This leaves a lot of opportunities for youngsters like Chance Morris and youngster Jonathan Ikone.
I’m expecting an exciting season for the Lorient defence as they look to defend their FA Trophy title that they last won in 1992. They do have a few injuries however that could hinder their progress such as missing defenders Joel Ward and goalkeeper Eidur Gudin. This opens up an opportunity for young Jonathan Ikone to stake a claim to the right wing role which he has done in previous seasons.
Jonathan Ikone has impressed us all with his performances both in the leagues and in the cup matches so far. This season could be his breakthrough year. If he plays his part and holds down the right wing then this could give him the chance to build on what he’s achieved so far. Lorient are also a team that need to keep rotating players around as injury or suspension causes a side to go stale. That means that they may have to pick up players from elsewhere to compensate for a lack of quality in certain areas.
