Kathy Griffin was born in Watts, California and grew up in Southern California. She is a mother of three children, all of whom are named Tyga. She attended the University of Southern California for two years before deciding to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. After her time at USC came to an end, she signed a deal with Comedy Central to produce their series “The Kathy Griffin Show.” On the show, she parodied several celebrities, as well as other not so famous people.
It was this very same show that would introduce many of the future celebrities that we know today such as Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Snoop Dogg, Tom Cruise, and Billy Ray Cyrus. The first episode of the show “The Kathy Griffin Show” actually started as a joke when host Kathy Griffin informed everyone that she was going to do a stand-up special that evening. The joke was that she was going to do a roast of roast celebrities. Much to the surprise of many people, including herself, the show did go ahead and she became the center of media attention for the next several weeks.
As a result, Ms. Griffin went on to become one of the most controversial and well-received comedians in the 2007-08 year. The second season of “The Kathy Griffin Show” chronicles her rise to fame and a number of confrontations that have taken place since the first episode of her show. Among her notable appearances are her impressions of the President of the United States, the first lady, a number of well-known politicians, as well as members of the entertainment community. Her numerous appearances on “The Late Night Show” and” Conan O’Brien” have also made her one of the most well-known stand-up comics in the world.
Unlike some other artists who have achieved some mainstream success through television or movies, Ms. Griffin has instead built her reputation on her unique brand of humor. While her traditional jokes about political and social issues are still very popular among her devoted fans, some of her greatest moments seem to have been in various sketches and comedy fests that have surfaced via the Internet over the past several months. One of the earliest examples of this was a performance in an “airship” reality TV show in which she hosted an “alternative” brunch where guests included some well-known Hollywood celebrities. The comedian’s rendition of the president of the United States was met with laughs from the crowd and a standing ovation from the panel of judges. In this clip, you can see Ms. Griffin telling a joke about her fondness for fried chicken:
After taking some time away from hosting her own comedy shows for awhile, Ms. Griffin returned to perform and was even more successful in the last year or so. She opened for Palin at a concert in California and delivered a wonderful performance. Her appearance marked the launch of the Tea Party movement in the U.S., and she has since made appearances on numerous Fox News programs. Many people are surprised by her ability to remain politically correct while still making jokes about her former love affair with former President George W. Bush. Her loyal following of the former Alaska Governor has also made many celebrities in Hollywood happy to have her on their team.

There are many other celebrities with personal scandals and public embarrassments who would probably be able to benefit from reading a good book about public Speaking. For instance, did you know that Sarah Palin’s former babysitter is now sharing secrets with a reporter about how President Obama planned to invade our nation with terrorists? The former Alaska Governor is currently being sued by the former babysitter for breach of contract and invasion of privacy. As entertaining as it might be to imagine the comedic potential of the former babysitter sharing secrets with a reporter, it is a real shame that this story does not get more exposure in the media. As the country gears up for another Presidential election, it is time to stop talking about celebrities who have political ambitions and start talking about real news.
