Kurt Zouma recently signed a season-long loan spell at Saint-Essex where he is plying his trade in the left wing position. The former Lorient centre-forward has impressed many throughout the English top flight with three goals so far this season. The former Lorient starlet has impressed many with his pacey style of play which has allowed him to operate in a wide variety of attacking roles. Kurt Zouma has also impressed with his displays in the centre of defence, where he has established himself as one of English football’s most complete players.
Kurt Zouma made his international debut in the 2021 FIFA World Cup qualifying group stages. The versatile defender impressed many during the qualification process, and he impressed more when captain England was selecting to face Brazil in the quarter finals. Kurt Zouma has been likened to a modern day David Beckham, with the Lorient ace labelled as the heir apparent to the famous midfielder. Aged 24, Kurt Zouma is already established as one of the best centre-backs in the premier league and is recognized as one of the best defensive players in the world. A right-sided centre-back, Kurt Zouma has featured on right-wing, left-wing and central defensive duties for Saints.
Kurt Zouma first moved from Lorient to join former Ajax player Klaas-aris in the mid 1990s. He made just one appearance for Saint-lesson in a league match but impressed enough to feature regularly for the club in the next couple of years before moving permanently in the summer of 2021. Kurt Zouma then moved to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands in 2021 and has impressed ever since. Now a regular in their defence, Kurt Zouma has formed an integral part of the PSV defence and has consistently rated as one of the favourites to win the PFA Player of the Year award.
Kurt Zouma’s influence on Saints is immense, not just on the pitch, but off it as well. As a person Kurt Zouma shows tremendous maturity for a man of his age and has become a much sought after member of the English national team set-up. Zouma started the season in goal for Saint-ton but was given a rest following Jozy Altidore’s arrival from Chelsea. Altidore impressed in style, scoring three goals in his first three games, and has since impressed Saints fans with his fitness and physique. Injuries are again a headache for Saints this season, and Kurt Zouma has been forced out of the starting line due to a heel injury sustained in pre-season.
Kurt Zouma is rated as one of the best defensive players in the premier league and continues to be compared unfavourably with Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma. Unlike many defenders in comparable positions, Kurt Zouma is able to operate both at right-center and left-centre, which has helped him develop into a more versatile player for Saints. Although he does slot in at left-center in certain games, his natural position is right-center, where he has done well in his career. It would be unfair to say that Kurt Zouma has been a poor signing for Saints, but rather a relative success, having established himself in the premier league as a quality left-sided centre-back.
Kurt Zouma’s contract at Stade Olympique-Mendon is up at the end of this season, and he will most likely seek a move abroad when it comes to his footballing future. For Saints fans, however, it is a bitter disappointment that Kurt Zouma has only managed to score one goal in twelve games since joining from FC Twente. Perhaps he is settling down, but Saints fans would do better to give the young defender time to shine on his own merit instead of expecting too much from a player who has only a few months of football under his belt. Kurt Zouma could turn out to be one of the better defensive acquisitions in the upcoming years if he maximises his potential and fulfill his full potential this season.
