Liu Yifei is currently busy with promotions for a live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, a Chinese original story written by Fan Hui. Her role in this new movie will be played by Jing Jie, a young Chinese actress who previously appeared in a series of live-action productions such as the Kung Fu Panda film franchise. According to IMDB, Jing is the latest female star to be cast in a live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
In terms of her singing career, Liu Yifei has released a number of albums in her native China. Her first album was released in 1998, with the title of Power to Protect, and featured the Chinese song “Shaokang.” The album reached number four in the overall world charts, selling thirty-six copies in total. The following year, she released a sequel to her first album titled Just You, and the third one came out in 2021 with the same album title but with a different song title.
Liu Yifei’s last great film role was in the 2021 Chinese film version of Sleeping Beauty, playing the lead role as the beautiful and mysterious Mulan. Although Mulan was not a very popular role, he did make some improvements to his film image in the wake of Mulan’s box office failure. For example, his costume was redesigned to look more authentic Chinese, he received better treatment than he had in the Mulan films, and other actors took over his role to help rehabilitate his image. Regardless, Mulan failed to achieve the success that Dreamworks or Disney had hoped for, nor did it translate into sales of additional Chinese films. Consequently, this actress and her roles were largely forgotten in the Chinese film industry, at least in English speaking countries.
However, Liu Yifei has made a name for herself outside of the Chinese entertainment business. She has also developed a following in the United States, particularly in New York, where she is known for her energetic and loud singing performances at live shows. The best of these performances can be found on the DVD” Liu Xianxia: Love Takes Wing,” which was produced by Ms. Liu’s own company. In addition to the live-action movie, she has also released a children’s book series featuring the adventures of a young Chinese girl named Lucy. As with her mulan live-action movie, this book also reached number one in the Chinese movie industry, although sales of the children’s books have lagged behind those of the former.
