Maura Tierneys career started in the late fifties when she was cast as a series regular on one of the longest running and most respected television shows in history, The Munsters. She appeared in fourteen episodes and played the role of the comic relief character, Porky. It was the first show to feature a female starring role and was a huge success. Maura spent the next eight years playing the same character in a series of spinoffs and came back for a two-part episode of The Munsters: Where Are They Now? This led to her being nominated for an Academy Award for her work in The Munsters and later for her work on The Practice.

While The Munsters was incredibly popular, Maura was also very popular in more mainstream television projects such as Granite Girl, Moesha and The Perfect Score. These are some of the more successful television programs that Tierney has been involved with and all of which earned her an additional twenty-four Emmy Awards. All of these were directed by Steven Spielberg and her work in these shows went notably well into the 1980s. As a result of this career, Maura Tierney was able to secure a place in the Hall of Fame for actors in Hollywood that was assembled by Spielberg.
If you take a look at the biographies that accompany the actresses who have been inducted into this hall of fame, you will find that Maura Tierney was written almost exclusively by Spielberg. This is not necessarily a criticism, as Tierney has certainly done her own share of work in feature films. However, it is interesting to see how many of the directors of the Golden Globes and other top awards committees are actually promoting projects that have been produced by people who do not really even speak English. Take the biographies for movies such as A Few Good Men and Gladiator for example. Both of these films were directed by Kenneth Branagh and his English is pretty poor, but he was the star.
There is one aspect of Maura Tierney’s career that many people would probably like to know about though. Her birthday is February 14th. That is the only day that this much-hyped actress has ever turned in to a character in a major motion picture. Her first major role came in the relatively conservative western film Dances With Machines. After that she appeared in a number of other less successful movies, but she never achieved the success that some of her early roles may have deserved.
At the age of 55 years old, Maura Tierney still has not made any major bankable movies. Her only notable TV role is the soap opera That 70s Show. Despite this, she has still managed to build up a huge personal fortune. It should be said that people are always going to ask if she has made any great films, or even good television shows. Her answer would be that she has, and that she is happy to have done so.
