National Friendship Day 2023
The first national Friendship Day was held in Canada in 1930. It was commemorated with the first ever World War Camembert Square ceremony. Canadian First Lady Pauline Reille received the Order of the Princess Consort for her contribution towards the bettering of French Canadian relations. Her great friend, the late Princess Margaret, was also present at the ceremony. It was on this day that the first National Friendship Day card was issued.
National Friendship Day History
Canadian National Friendship Day has its roots in the history of two communities, the French and the Indians. On the first Sunday of July there were three American children who immigrated to Canada and celebrated the first national Friendship Day in Canada. It was then that the very first National Friendship Day card was issued. This photo was placed by American farmer Louis Pasteur in a frame which he donated to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Museum in Ottawa.
