Naysila Mirdad was born in Batangas province in the Philippines. She is popularly known as Naysila Mirdad because of her long and colorful relationship with the people of the Philippines, especially the Filipino people. She has been a major cultural icon in the country. Naysila Mirdad was born to parents who are Dutch and Filipino. Her father was a well-known artist, while her mother, whom she loved very much, was from a royal family in the Philippines.
Naysila grew up in San Augustin and Baguio. She was one of six children of Ida Custodio, who was a very prominent Filipino lady of the time. Naysila grew up learning the language and culture of her country from her parents. As she grew older, she also learned how to speak Dutch and English. She attended the Catholic college in San Augustin and studied medicine. Later, she decided to major in Anthropology and History at the university in Quepos.

Naysila went on to work in Jakarta in Indonesia. There, she starred in a number of popular films such as Eragon, Here Come The Bride, and Even though You Lost Her. In the late eighties, she went to London to study drama before getting an entry into the United States where she acted in films such as Bridget Jones Diary. She finally landed a role in the movie adaptation of King Kong and did not disappoint in this film.
Naysila is a proud representative of the Isuzu cosmetics company. In her bio, she proudly states that she is a member of the Indonesian actresses’ guilds. She has been honored with a degree from IDP (Indonesian Film Development Council) and is a recipient of the Indira Gandhi Foundation for Women in film and television. She has also been nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and received a Golden Globe nomination for her second nomination. She was also nominated for a Best Music Feature Oscar for her performance in the film Bridget Jones Diary.
