Priya Bhavani is an Indian actress. She is popularly known as Priya Bhavani Shankar in India, and as Priya Bhavani in Hollywood films. In fact, she is perhaps best known for her role as the mystic and warrior Queen Kangra in the Indian movie, Rajneeti. In the Tamil language, the title Priya Bhavani Shankar means Queen Priya, and in Hindi, it is referred to as Priya Bhavani Shankar Tamil.
Priya Bhavani has been in the limelight since her first major film entry in the late eighties, where she was a contestant on the popular television program, D-day. After that, Bhai Dooj, a feature film and biopic was released in which she starred. It was then that Priya Bhavani Shankar began receiving national and international attention, particularly after her association with Ajit Guha, who was then famous for his role of Ajit Tika in Mankatha. The biographies of Priya Bhavani and Ajit Guha do not mention anything about her weight, but one interesting note is that neither actor had ever appeared in the films, nor has she appeared in any TV series prior to that of Ajit Tika.

So, how did Priya Bhavani Shankar come to be known as Priya Bhavani? Well, in the late eighties she was listed amongst the favourites in the Bollywood pantheon, along with Sharukh Khan and female stars like heroine from Dibakno, Prem Chopra, Satya, Lovely mammoths from Mankatha, and dancer from Rajneeti. She was also the first female actor to receive a Best actress award at the Oscars, for her role in Rajneeti. Over the years, she has gone on to receive various other awards including a Best Music, Best Costume and Best Leading Female Artist award from the Oscars. This is quite an impressive resume for a Bollywood actress, who was then only thirty-one years old.
There have been speculations that Priya Bhavani has the ‘in’ factor with the media, which could be seen in her appearances on prime-time television shows, and her being one of the favourite guests at the famous Mumbai filmfare awards. While there have been quite a few television shows in which Priya Bhavani has featured, it is her association with Ajit Guha that is perhaps the most significant. This is because Ajit Guha is the husband of Priya Bhavani’s younger sister, Manjishtha (pseudonym for Priya), and is known for his extreme temper and outspoken nature. Priya and Ajit were quite often seeing bickering on their television shows, which earned them a reputation as being the couple that caused trouble in their family. It was not uncommon for Ajit to throw a tantrum or attack Priya whenever he felt slighted or wronged.
Priya Bhavani shankar, however, did not let this affect her career, but instead remained determined to pursue her acting career and gradually grew in both popularity and esteem, even enjoying a period of popular popularity after her serialisation of the serialized Bollywood film, Khaleja. However, it was Manjishtha who managed to overshadow Priya Bhavani and become her fiercest rival in the ever-competing and combative field of cinema. Manjishtha’s unremitting attacks on Priya Bhavani marked the low point in their relationship, although both actors have since expressed a willingness to mend fences. Priya, who has not been spared by Manjishtha’s histrionics, has refused to succumb to his corrosive tactics, stating that she will always be ready to face any challenge thrown her way. To date, Manjishtha has not publicly responded to Priya Bhavani’s latest diatribe, but speculation is that he may soon do so. Whatever the case, Priya Bhavani has been able to withstand the onslaught from her erstwhile rival.
Priya Bhavani and Ajit Jhanan had a remarkable relationship, which began when both actors shared the stage together in Khaleja. Priya was initially successful in the serial, and Ajit’s brilliant portrayal of Nandita, an orphaned girl forced to live with a gang of criminals in the slums of Mumbai, won him a string of critical acclaim and popular approval from Hindi films viewers. When Ajit left to pursue a career in cinema, Priya followed, becoming one of the most successful actresses in Hindi films. This success led her to establish a close relationship with Rajkumar Kohli, who produced a number of her films. Her association with Raj Kumar Kohli has triggered speculations that Priya is in some sort of romantic relationship with Rajinikanth, whom she has known since their college days. In fact, some sources say that Priya and Rajinikanth were seen together during one of their many film shoots.
