The most important character of Sai Dhanshika’s that critics and fans always talk about is the character of Parvati, or Subodhia as she is known in the Hindi film industry. She is the princess of Parvati (Kathakali), who is the sister of Lord Brahma. Her father, Ravi, is very much dissatisfied with the status of his princess and decides to marry her younger sister, Parashurama. But when his marriage falls through, he is forced to abdicate his position as ruler of Parvati’s kingdom. He then travels to the city of Khajuraho, where he marries Swarga (Karen), a young girl who belongs to the royalty of that region.
However, things do not go well for the prince-to-be and he and Swarga become enemies. In the film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, a star from Hindi film Baahubali, Ajab tries to get back at Parvati by marrying her sister, Swarga, a princess from that region, in order to get the throne of Khajuraho. However, Parvati gets suspicious of Ajab’s motives and thinks that he is trying to gain undue power and wealth at her expense. When it becomes clear to her that Ajab is actually trying to help her escape from the palace, Parvati agrees to let Ajab marry her daughter, Swarga.
In her first ever film role, actress Sonam Kandal and her son Abanindranath Tagore have done a good job in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. This movie also did wonders for Sonam’s career, which was badly hit by the failure of Rajkumar Kohli starring in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Sonam was nominated for the first-best female actress award at the 1996 Motion Picture Awards along with Bhumika in Rajkumar Kohli’s Baahubali.
Another very important role that was played by Sai Dhanshika in her first Indian film outings was in a Tamil film titled Thirududya. This film also did remarkably well, despite its low budget. It did bag the best award at the 1997 Film Festival in Japan. All in all, Sai Dhanshika has established herself as one of the most accomplished actresses from Tamil films.
