Zhang Xiaofei, better known by her screen name Zhang Zhaojie, is a Chinese actress and singer. Born in Fujian province in 1980, Zhang was initially known as Zhang Xiaohua. This name was given to her when she was young because her father was fond of the opera and it was this form of art that shaped her career path in later years. She has since gone on to perform in films and musicals, and has also become a singer.

Zhang Xiaofei’s early life was not so interesting. Her parents divorced when she was very young and she was taken to be raised by her grandparents. These days, it is common for children to have both parents at their side and this is where Zhang got to learn about life. From a very young age, Zhang became interested with studying comedy and she soon developed a keen interest for performing and singing, all of which served as the foundations of her career in acting.

One of Zhang Xiaofei’s most popular roles in the past is that of a Chinese comedian in Hollywood movie. In the movie, Kung Mangai, Zhang plays the role of a Chinese comedian who gets to live in the wild side of the city while he practices his martial arts. It was this role that catapulted Zhang into stardom among the millions of Chinese viewers in the US.

But aside from her film roles, Zhang also had a lot of experience when it comes to Chinese comedy movies. She spent a lot of time in the Chinese theater before moving to Hollywood, and she even appeared in the hit comedy film Happy Days. She was also one of the original members of the Chinese national comedy team called the Handshake Brothers; along with her partner in the film, Gong Shimbing (Chow Mo), they formed a unique and funny trio that could even crack a few jokes about the Chinese people. The three of them also appeared in the award-winning Kung Mangai alongside many other popular Chinese stars. Zhang was part of the original Kung Mangai cast and she also performed in the sequel to the film.

Today, Zhang is mostly remembered as just a comic actor with a penchant for wacky characters. However, despite her small role in a number of comedies, her contributions to the Chinese comedy scene cannot be overlooked. Some of her best known roles include the evil hen in Dragon King, the clumsy yet funny monkey in Tai Chi Chuan, and the wise old monk in Shaolin: The Movie.
